Numeracy Challenge

'The National Numeracy challenge launched this week with the aim of reducing the number of adults in the UK with low levels of numeracy by over 1 million in the next five years.

By numeracy we mean ‘everyday maths’; the maths that helps people to make decisions in day-to-day adult life and work. Without a reasonable level of numeracy, people may not be able to manage their money through to pay-day, plan journeys or understand interest rates, medical information or promotional offers.

The Challenge Online

  • Central to the National Numeracy Challenge is the Challenge Online which is an interactive website designed to boost confidence and improve everyday maths skills.
  • Take a look here -

Customers wishing to improve their everyday maths skills need to register online and will then be able to complete modules to test and improve their everyday maths. The challenges can then be repeated if they wish or they can move on to harder challenges as they progress. We are simply here to promote the challenge THERE IS NO TARGET to sign up customers.

If customers would like to get further help Stafford college are running maths day and evening courses (page 37 of their brochure).  Your Union Learning Rep, Stuart Nixon ( can help you book on courses or find other venues."
