Local Government Workers to Strike on 14 October 2014 - UPDATED

As you know, the three unions – UNISON, GMB and Unite - submitted an initial claim for 2014-2015 for a minimum increase of £1 an hour on all scale points to achieve the Living Wage for the lowest paid and to begin to restore the 18% lost earnings for members above the bottom pay point. At the moment, 450,000 NJC workers earn £6.45 pence an hour - £1.20 an hour less than the Living Wage.

Council and school workers voted for strike action for fair pay.  Local government workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland voted for action after rejecting the employers' pay offer of just 1%.

INDUSTRIAL STRIKE ACTION 10TH JULY 2014

UNISON has voted to take industrial action with a 1-day strike on 10th July 2014. This is the reaction to the Local Government Employers final offer of a 1% increase for this financial year. UNISON EXPECTS ALL OF IT’S MEMBERS IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT THIS ACTION.
