Celebrate Black History Month - Saturday 6th October

Black History Month enables us to benefit from the goodness of our multi-cultural society. And it allows us to remember the achievements of those who challenged the norm and struggled to “make the world a better place".

Black History Month happens every October in the UK and provides a wonderful occasion to celebrate the diversity of our society and the contributions Black and Asian men and women have made to the development of British society, technology, economy and culture.

The flyer for the event on Saturday 6th October is available for download below.

Recruit a Friend and Get a £10 Voucher

With politicians drastically cutting public spending, essential public services are under serious threat of cuts and privatisation.

So are the jobs of the dedicated public service workers who serve our communities in schools, social care, libraries, and thousands of other vital local services.

The Government says that these cuts are necessary to balance the books after the recession, but they are cutting so hard and so fast that many people fear it will tip us back into recession, making matters worse.

UNISON believes there is a better way – we want to see investment in jobs and services, which is why we are campaigning to defend public services and the people who provide them.  If you wish to get involved, please contact us.

Staffordshire County Council – Future of Children’s Centres

Stephen Twigg, Shadow Education Secretary, speaking in an all-party parliamentary group report on Surestart said, “As a country, we want to use all the talent that’s available to us and if a parent is unavailable because they can’t get proper childcare, they’re unavailable to the country … Early Years and childcare are examples where sensible investment brings cost savings later in life. Parents are facing a killer combination of the economic situation, rising childcare costs and the reduction in services.”
