Local Government Pay 2009 - Update

Where are we at?

Following six hours of constructive pay talks at the end of May, the Trade Union Side has been waiting for a response and a possible revised offer from the Local Government Employers.

In light of the continuing talks, the unions have been reassured that the employers will not carry out their threat to make no offer at all if agreement was not reached by the end of May. We will update branches as soon as we receive a response from the Employers, which is expected after the local elections.

Consultation with members
Attached to this newsletter is a copy of the Service Group’s Pay Consultation Procedures which were last updated and agreed at Local Government Conference in 2006.

Clearly these are for branches’ information only at this stage as no final offer has yet been received, but we would ask branches to start to think about the consultation processes at local level now, so that we can be prepared for when we do get the final offer.

Since branch ballots are recommended, early preparation might be useful.

Talk to members and non-members

Keep talking to members about UNISON’s role in the negotiations, the latest position and let them know we will consult with them once we have a final offer.

It’s so easy for non-members to join us – get them to do it on line now!
